The populationof the country is 20.1 million, with an estimated LF atriskpopulation of about 0.1 million. There are no recentdata on clinical manifestations.Administratively, Yemen is divided into 20 governorates,each divided into districts; each district is divided intosubdistricts (Ozla) and these, in turn, are divided intovillages. The administrative division designated as theIU is the subdistrict. Mapping was started in 2000 withan estimated at-risk population of approximately 0.1 million:12 IUs were considered (or found) to be endemicfollowing surveys undertaken for CFA. Prevalence ofantigenaemia evaluated by ICT cards in endemic areasranged from 1.3% to 40%.The first MDA round under PELF began in 2002 and covered11 IUs, i.e. 92% of the endemic IUs. The secondround of MDA in 2003 targeted 104 821 people with areported coverage of 78% (range: 68% to 78%). The doorto-doordrug administration strategy was used. Between2002 and 2003, 10 training courses for MDA trained 234people.The Yemen Ministry of Public Health conducted the LFelimination programme. WHO provided technical assistanceand ICT diagnostic cards, and financial assistancewas received from AFESD.
