59AMERICAN PROGRAMME REVIEWGROUPAt present, all seven endemic countries have startedLF elimination activities, namely: Brazil, Costa Rica,Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Suriname andTrinidad and Tobago. In 2003 nearly 1.8 million peoplewere covered by MDA. The geographical coverage of theAmerican PRG programmes implementing MDA activitiescan be seen in Table 3.11 below.The role of partnership and alliances has been of paramountimportance for the elimination programmesin the region, with CDC, Emory University, LiverpoolSchool of Tropical Medicine, DFID and various nongovernmentalorganizations.
