The LFclinical manifestations have not been evaluated recentlyin sentinel sites. The most accurate data come from astudy of Brygoo and Escolivet (1955) which showedelephantiasis prevalence of 1.7% in Moheli.were covered by MDA: Grand Comoros and Anjouan; forlogistic reasons, Moheli was not covered. Between 2001and 2003, 3078 drug distribu<strong>to</strong>rs were trained and 188individuals were trained in disability prevention andcontrol. In 2003, 545 537 people were covered with areported coverage of 68.7% (range: 63% <strong>to</strong> 75%).Chapter 3 <strong>Programme</strong> implementationThe administrative divisions designated as IUs were theislands of Moheli, Grand Comoros and Anjouan. LF mappingin Comoros was completed in 2000, and showedthat all three islands are considered endemic. The firstround of MDA using DEC and albendazole began in 2001where the three IUs were covered. In 2002, only two IUsThe LF elimination programme is administered by theministry of health with the support of other partners.WHO provided financial and technical support and providesDEC.
