Aircraft Operational Practices (Takeoff)• At small flap settings (i.e., 5 or 10 degrees) the takeoffrunway length is increased due to small gains in C L (littleincrease in the lifting force). Useful for high-hot takeoffconditions.• At medium flap angle settings (15-25 degrees) the gainsin lift usually override those of the drag force. These arethe flap settings typically used for takeoff except underextremely abnormal airport environments such as highelevation, hot temperature airport conditions and highaircraft weights or a combination of both.
