Failure to meet and exceed visitorexpectations will lead to a reduction in visitor numbers and the associated economic benefitsthat the industry can bring to an area. Measuring visitor satisfaction should be a key function oflocal authorities as tourism becomes an ever increasing component of economic wellbeing ofan area. For the visitor to South Africa visitor satisfaction is about more than the people with whom theycame into contact, the places they stayed or the attractions they visited. Local and districtmunicipalities are important role players in providing essential services and infrastructure thatenables the tourism industry to operate.37
