While theseseminars do not create “instant experts,” they do provide the participants with hands-on experience with Consolidated®valves. XXV. Optional Glide-Aloy PartsOptional Glide-Aloy Parts andthe Repair Processing of SuchComponentsGlide-Aloy is a proprietary process of Dresser, Inc.utilized to provide a combination of a low coefficient offriction between sliding components and to protect thesurfaces of the components to which the process hasbeen applied. A Glide- Aloy surface-hardened valvecomponent may be recognized by its flat, dull gray colorand slick surface. The parent metal should not be visibleon a new component.The Glide-Aloy reaction bonding process is commonlyapplied to Consolidated ® 1900 Series SRV discholders and/or guides, when specified. Although theentire surface area of the component is treated, only theguiding surface is critical. When Consolidated® 1900Series SRVs contain Glide- Aloy parts, they may beidentified by the coding found on the valve nameplate.Example: 1905Jc-2-G1 where the “G” designationindicates Glide-Aloy:G1 - Glide-Aloy HolderATTENTION!!Do not attempt to remove the coating of aGlide-Aloy treated component.For a component in service after the cleaning processis completed, visually inspect parts to ensure all debrisis removed, and that the components have the requiredfinish.Dresser, Inc.’s experience indicates that if thecomponents have been properly cleaned, adequatecoating will remain to ensure proper operation. Thecoating may appear lighter or missing in some areas,but the desired results will be achieved as a result ofthe coating characteristics imparted to the parent metalduring the original coating process.ATTENTION!!Do not machine the guiding surfaces that have beenGlide-Aloy treated.Components that are deeply gouged or galled, andthat do not meet dimensional requirements, cannot becleaned and returned to service. Machining removesthe coating and renders the parts unacceptable. Thesurface-hardness approximates that of diamonds, and isapproximately .002˝ (0.051 mm) thick.ATTENTION!!Follow recommendations for safe handling ofsolvents as specified in the MSDS and observe safepractices for any cleaning method.G2 - Glide-Aloy GuideG3 - Glide-Aloy Holder and GuideGlide-Aloy treated components may be cleaned bylow-pressure compressed air, microbead blasting, orbrushing. Also, a non-chlorinated, hydrocarbon shopsolvent may be used. The latter is for personnel safetyreasons and not because of any incompatibility betweenchlorides and Glide - Aloy.Regarding personnel safety, all personnel should befamiliar with the appropriate processes as well as thematerial safety data sheets (MSDS) supplied by the vendorof any cleaning compounds used. Personal protectiveequipment (protective gloves, goggles, etc.) shouldbe worn so as to avoid contact with materials that maybe splashed during the cleaning process.1900 Series Safety Valve (July/2010) | 61
