Appendix CRS485 (DSI) ProtocolPowerFlex 4 drives support the RS485 (DSI) protocol to allow efficientoperation with Rockwell Automation peripherals. In addition, someModbus functions are supported to allow simple networking. PowerFlex4 drives can be multi-dropped on an RS485 network using Modbusprotocol in RTU mode.ControllerFor information regarding DeviceNet or other communication protocols, refer to the appropriate usr manual.Network WiringNetwork wiring consists of a shielded 2-conductor cable that isdaisy-chained from node to node.Figure C.1 Network Wiring DiagramMaster120 ohm resistorPowerFlex 4Node 145PowerFlex 4Node 245TxRxD+TxRxD-TxRxD+TxRxD-TxRxD+TxRxD-Shield Shield ShieldX X XPowerFlex 4Node "n"45NOTE: The shield is connected at ONLY ONE end of each cable segment.120 ohm resistorPIN 1PIN 8FRONTOnly pins 4 and 5 on the RJ45 plug should be wired. The other pins onthe PowerFlex 4 RJ45 socket contain power, etc. for other RockwellAutomation peripheral devices and must not be connected.Wiring terminations on the master controller will vary depending on themaster controller used and “TxRxD+” and “TxRxD-” are shown forillustration purposes only. Refer to the master controller’s user manualfor network terminations. Note that there is no standard for the “+” and“-” wires, and consequently Modbus device manufacturers interpretthem differently. If you have problems with initially establishingcommunications, try swapping the two network wires at the mastercontroller.
