A STRING STORYThis story is known throughout the world. The Indian version is as follows: A farmer first ploughsthe field, then he sows the seeds, next he waters the crop, finally he applies manure. The crop isnow ready to be harvested. Then a fat rat comes and eats up the entire crop. Take a 2-metre longthick string (Sutli - jute twine would do). Make a long loop by tying its two ends.1. Place the loop of stringover your left hand (farmerselects the field).2. Put your right index fingerunder the front string and hookthe string that is between theleft thumb and index finger.3. Pull it back a littleunder the front string.4. Give it half a turn clockwise, making a small loop.5. Place this small loopover your left index finger(farmer ploughs the field).6. With your right indexfinger again hook the stringbetween the left index andmiddle finger.7. Pull it under the front string.Give it half a clockwise turn tomake another loop and place itin the middle finger (farmersows the seeds).8. Again hook the string, make a loop and put it in thenext left-hand finger(farmer waters the crop).Put another loop in the littlefinger (farmer appliesmanure).9. This should be thefinished result (the crop isall ready). Release the leftthumb loop (a fat ratcomes, the loop is the rat).10. Pull the front stringaway from your left hand.11. The loops willunwind from allthe fingers (thefat rat eats upthe entire crop). That is the end ofthe story.
