When acharged object is held near thepaper strip it moves.Rub a balloon with wooland bring it over the hair onyour head. Watch your hairstand up on end!Cut some pieces of thin cottonand nylon threads. Bring acharged co<strong>mb</strong> near them. Thethreads stand up like snakesbeing’ charmed’ by music.Bring a charged co<strong>mb</strong> near a thinsteady stream of water from a tap.Watch the stream bend towardsthe co<strong>mb</strong>.Rub an old tubelight inthe dark with a piece ofnylon. Watch thetubelight glow as sparksgo through itMagic wandRub an inflated balloon witha piece of nylon or wool.Watch it in the dark as youbring your finger near it. Youwill see a miniature lightningflash!Tie two blown balloons with longthreads. Charge each balloon byrubbing it with wool. Let theballoons hang freely. Watch themrepel each other.1. Cut a 4 cm long plasticsoda-straw and insert a pinthrough its centre. Make ahole in an old rubber slipperand insert an empty ball penrefill in it.2. Rub the plasticstraw with woolor nylon and thenplace the pin inthe refill.3. Take a longplastic strawand rub it withwool or a nylonhair band.4. Now as you bring thelong straw (magic wand)near the small one, the smallstraw rotates and turns.
