BUTTON PULLEYS1. You will need needles, thread,paper clips, pins, old ball-penrefills and cheap quality pant/coatbuttons. The plastic of thesebuttons should melt with a hot needle.VALVETUBE2. Put two similar buttons backto-backand sew them with aneedle/thread in the form of asquare Do not make a crossstitchas this will cover the centre.6. Different sizes ofcheap quality buttonscan be used to makedifferent sizes of pulleys.Several big and smallpulleys can be asse<strong>mb</strong>ledinto pulley blocks.3. Now make a hole throughthe centre of the two buttonsusing the tip of a hot needle.4. Make the bore smooth untilthe pulley rotates smoothly onthe needle.5. Make the hanger of thepulley by opening up a paperclip. Bend one of its legs atright- angles and slip in thebutton pulley. Put a cycle valvetube as a stopper to preventthe pulley from slipping out.7. Make a laddershaped hanger forhanging the pulleys.Use empty ball penrefills for the longme<strong>mb</strong>ers and paperpins for the shortme<strong>mb</strong>ers of the ladder.With the help of thesepulley blocks you canlift heavy loads byapplying less force.8. Asse<strong>mb</strong>le three pulleys andthree separate strings in the aboveconfiguration. Put 5 new matchboxes(approximately 50 gms) onthe load end. Now, put one newmatchbox (10 gms) at the effor<strong>ten</strong>d. You will be surprised to findthat one matchbox is able to lift upa load of 5 matchboxes.
