Release of Containment - Quality<strong>Supplier</strong>s shall remain on Containment - Quality until:They meet the exit criteria as defined in the notification letter.Provide supporting documentation on performance improvements and corrective actionstaken.Formally request exit from Level 1 Containment which <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> approves.Level 1 Containment - SafetyLevel 1 Containment - Safety is a requirement by <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> for the <strong>Supplier</strong> to take immediatesteps to develop a plan of interim actions to be taken to improve their safety performanceincluding pre-shift toolbox meetings, employee observations & contacts, thorough reviews ofspecific safety procedures, correcting unsafe acts and unsafe conditions, frequent safety audits &inspections, documenting safety activities and additional safety training/retraining, etc.This action plan, including specific action items with time frames, must be provided to thespecific facilities’ <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> Safety department within 48 hours of receipt of notification of Level1 (or Level 2) Containment to avoid further action by <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong>.Further action by <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> may include requiring a full time safety professional provided by the<strong>Supplier</strong> for the site, development of additional safety requirements by <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong>.The <strong>Supplier</strong> is required to perform a complete safety audit per their written Safety program asapproved by <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> for all operations at the <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> facility requesting the containment andproviding a comprehensive audit report to <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> Management.<strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> operations department, Safety, and Purchasing Management shall approve the auditreport and subsequent corrective actions for deficiencies.The <strong>Supplier</strong> shall be responsible for all costs associated with Level 1 Containment - Safety.Level 2 Containment - SafetyLevel 2 Containment - Safety requirements are identical to Level 1 Containment - Safety withthe additional requirement of a third party performing the Safety audit per the <strong>Supplier</strong>’s writtensafety program as approved by <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong>.The third party auditors shall confirm all deficiencies from the safety audit report are complete.The third party shall be responsible for the communication mentioned above.<strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> shall approve/provide the third party auditors.The <strong>Supplier</strong> shall be responsible for all costs associated with Level 2 Containment-Safety.Release of Containment – Safety<strong>Supplier</strong>s shall remain on Containment - Safety for a minimum of three months following theverification of acceptable safety performance and correction of all deficiencies indicated on thesafety audit report provided.<strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> <strong>Supplier</strong> <strong>Requirements</strong> Page 33 of 55Revised 01/13
