2Chapter 2: <strong>Supplier</strong> Criteria<strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> focuses on core manufacturing processes and our <strong>Supplier</strong>s must also be developing andperfecting their core competencies. To maintain a long term relationship with <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> <strong>Supplier</strong>smust:• Be competitive in quality, technology, service and cost.• Provide defect-free products for all direct and indirect materials / resources.• Maintain and register a quality system which meets the requirements of ISO 9001/ TS 16949or an industry appropriate equivalent.• Provide the lowest total cost products driving toward 5% year-over-year reductions throughcontinual improvement initiatives.• Be capable of validating products for <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> specific applications.• Deliver product 100% on time.Quality System<strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> requires <strong>Supplier</strong>s to achieve registration, by an accredited certification body to ISO9001/ TS16949 Quality Management Standard or an industry appropriate equivalent for eachlocation that serves the company.<strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> recommends <strong>Supplier</strong>s take the initiative to register to ISO/TS 16949. <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong>recognizes that <strong>Supplier</strong>s not producing product/service for the automotive market are not eligibleto register to ISO/TS 16949.<strong>Supplier</strong>s can obtain copies of the ISO/TS 16949 Third Edition 2009-06-15 standard or the ISO9001:2008 standard from Automotive Industry Action Group, AIAG.Any <strong>Supplier</strong> having its quality registration/certification withdrawn by the issuing certificationbody or, the by its own action, cancels their quality standard certification, must notify <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong>Purchasing and the <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> manufacturing location(s) within five (5) working days of the decertification.<strong>Supplier</strong> Quality System AssessmentA potential/current <strong>Supplier</strong> that has not registered their quality system as stated above may beaudited by <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong>, at the <strong>Supplier</strong>’s cost, in order to be considered/maintained as a <strong>Supplier</strong> to<strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong>. <strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> will audit the <strong>Supplier</strong>’s quality system to the requirements of ISO 9001.<strong>AK</strong> <strong>Steel</strong> <strong>Supplier</strong> <strong>Requirements</strong> Page 9 of 55Revised 01/13
