Student NewsThe American Student Dental Association at <strong>UDM</strong>Jerek B. Petrous, DS3ASDA PresidentAs we embark on a new school year, wecan expect to see many changes – newfaces, new classes, and <strong>of</strong> course, moreinformation. One thing, however, thatwill continue to remain constant is theAmerican Student Dental Associationand its commitment to organizeddentistry and to the dental studentshere at <strong>UDM</strong>.One goal <strong>of</strong> our ASDA chapter at<strong>UDM</strong> for the upcoming year is tosend a record number <strong>of</strong> studentsto Washington D.C. on Capitol Hillnext February to lobby for legislationpertaining to dentistry. We are alsolooking to establish a successful StateLobby Day in Lansing to complementwhat we are doing on the nationallevel. With these efforts, we arehoping to increase awareness <strong>of</strong> thepotential for us, as students and asfuture practicing dentists, to makepositive changes in our pr<strong>of</strong>essionand ultimately maintain a unifiedvoice.In addition, ASDA at <strong>UDM</strong> <strong>of</strong>fershelpful services to the students.Some <strong>of</strong> these services include:Distributing business/clinic cards for third and fourth year students, helpingstudents find a place to live at our annual housing fair, holding a career fair toallow 3 rd and 4 th year students the opportunity to meet potential employers, andhosting dozens <strong>of</strong> pertinent and informative ‘lunch n learns’. In addition, we arecurrently developing a scholarship fund for graduating 4 th year students.At the ASDA Annual Session in Louisville, Kentucky this past March, hundreds<strong>of</strong> dental student leaders from around the U.S. gathered to share ideas for theirschool and to vote on future policy.Top: Left to Right: JerekB.
