Each of us is an artist
Leica Gallery Praha invites general public to take part
in this project that will be developed over the next three
years, inspired by the idea of coaxing the artist in each of
us to look at the region and world around us with different
eyes and produce a photographic testimony on life. This
year’s theme is ‘My Family’. Terms and conditions may

The Orbis Pictus, or The Gate to the World of Man’s
Creative Imagination
Until 30 Apr
This interactive exhibition premiered at the Czech Centre
in Paris last year and currently takes full advantage of
this museum’s monumental vestibule and transepts. The
centrepiece is inspired by The Labyrinth of the World and
the Paradise of the Heart by Jan Amos Comenius and is an
organic playing assembly mounted in an inflated heart-shaped
structure, which invites, like all the other exhibits, the visitors’
active and creative participation. Also find The Ear, The Eye,
Singing Butterfly, a giant kaleidoscope and the Fountain of
Pleasure. During the exhibition a number of musical, dance
and theatrical performances will be held; most of them will be
fairly alternative. Admission 100/50Kč.

Japanese Posters Today

The exhibition features over a hundred Japanese posters
produced in the last decade from the collection DNP Archives
of Graphic Design, Tokyo. After its premiere in Munich the
exhibition went to Zurich and Frankfurt and will travel to Berlin.
In collaboration with Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd., Die Neue
Sammlung - Staatliches Museum für angewandte Kunst.

Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Until 13 May
Lawrence Ferlinghetti (b. 1919) is known as one of the Beat
poets and is the co-owner of San Francisco’s City Lights
Bookstore. This exhibition presents a cross-section of his
work, primarily drawings and spacious canvasses expressing
his emotions from observing naked male and female bodies,
which also convey the social and political contexts of his

Shomei Tomatsu: Skin of the Nation

Shomei, the father of modern Japanese photography, is
one of the most eloquent Japanese artists of the past halfcentury
and influenced several generations of Japanese
photographers with his approach; documentary-based, lyrical

Mammoths Hunters: A period that very few remember…

The Gravettian region includes cave sites in France and
the open sites of specialized mammoth hunters on the
plains of Moravia, Austria and Silesia, which never again
determined the development of culture in such a way. This
exhibition features original artefacts, reconstruction of
period dwellings and an actual-sized replica of a mammoth.

Bedřich Dlouhý: Self-Portrait IV

The exhibition named Self-Portrait IV will present the latest
works of the painter Bedřich Dlouhý. The artist continues
his work with new formats of his brilliant pieces. Let yourself
be led into his world of magic and illusions, experiment and
absurdity and bear witness to a certain development in his
works, where Dlouhý unexpectedly adopts a reduced, even
minimalist expression. Admission free.

Air Asia

A selection of works from last year’s Noorderlicht Photofestival
in the Netherlands, this exhibition is a flight over Southeast
Asia in the company of sixteen photographers. It provides a
look at the history of portrait and documentary photography
as well as reflecting contemporary life in genres from
Minimalist Art to ironic portrayals of Bollywood Pop culture.
With accompanying lectures, discussions, and screenings at
the Langhans Gallery and films on 6, 13 & 20 June, at Ponrepo

Anniversary of the Eight
6 Apr - 17 June
To mark the 100th anniversary of the first exhibition held by
Osma (The Eight) - Emil Filla, Bedřich Feigl, Max Horb, Bohumil
Kubišta, Otakar Kubín, Emil Pittermann-Longen, Willy Nowak
and Antonín Procházka. Although today it is impossible
to attempt a reconstruction of a show that signalled the
emergence of Modernism in Czech art, this exhibition seeks
to recall that important event. Admission 50/20Kč.

Rudolfine Beauty
Recently Discovered Works by Painters at the Court
of Emperor Rudolf II
From 15 Apr
Thanks to the generosity of a foreign admirer of Rudolfine
art, four works are returning to the rooms for which they
were most probably created during the reign of Rudolf II.
For the first time since their discovery three paintings and
a sculpture from a private collection are being exhibited
by Prague Castle Picture Gallery as a public exhibition.
The hitherto unknown, uncatalogued works with subject
matter from classical mythology and the Bible were
made by important artists at Rudolf’s court: the German
painter, diplomat, and buyer of artworks for the
imperial collections Hans von Aachen (Cologne 1551/52
- Prague 1615); the Flemish painter and draughtsman
Bartholomeus Spranger (Antwerp 1546 - Prague 1611);
and the Netherlandish (yes, that is a real word) sculptor
Adriaen de Vries (The Hague c.1545 - Prague 1626). The
pieces will remain on show for a year and admission is
included on your castle ticket.
