Indian
Khajuraho D/E-3, Praha 1, Michalská 19, MMůstek,
tel. 225 77 73 33, www.khajuraho.cz. In the cellar
space of the lovely Iron Gate Hotel is this superlative Indian
restaurant unashamedly catering to five star standards.
Chefs specialise in various cuisines and dessert, clients have
included a Bollywood star, politicians and monarchs sampling
their delicate taste sensations of tender lamb, vegetable,
chicken and thali dishes. The murgh, so often bland instead
of subtle, remains imprinted on the mind long after the zalebi
and Masala tea has been savoured. Classical Indian music
and dance accompanies on occasion, and do try the Indian
wine. A stunning newcomer to the scene. QOpen 11:00
- 23:00. (500 - 1,400Kč). AEGS
International
medieval living, dine below the vaulted ceilings of this small
restaurant in an ancient building across the narrow street
from Týn Church. Feast on wild boar, venison, and classic
European dishes or just opt for the Old Town plate consisting
of pork, roast duck, sausages, dumplings and cabbage.
AEGPTU
RESTAURANTS IN THE OLD TOWN
Šípek Bistrot D-2, Praha 1, Valentinská 9, tel. 222 32
39 48, www.sipekbistrot.com. As with the small Šípek Deli
next door, arty glass hams and sausages hang above the
counter. The colourful and twisted work of Czech glass artist
Borek Šípek may not appeal to everyone, but we all agree
the food served at his restaurant is very good indeed. Surrounded
by Šípek design (furniture, chipped-edge porcelain,
candleholders and the naughty toilet signs) you’ll be served a
choice of just two set lunch menus and a more complete set of
dinner options. QOpen 11:00 - 22:30. (400 - 800Kč).
Allegro D-2, Praha 1, Veleslavínova 2a, MStaroměstská,
tel. 221 42 70 00, www.fourseasons.com. The quality
of the Four Seasons hotel chain is obvious in the classic,
oak-panelled line of Allegro’s interior as well as by the range
of delicious Italian and Bohemian specialties on offer. Their
view of the Vlatava and castle can’t be beaten, although
their prices can. Often named the best restaurant in Prague.
QOpen 06:30 - 24:00. (950 - 1,150Kč). AEGPU
Ambiente Pasta Fresca F-3, Praha 1, Celetná 11,
MNám. Republiky, tel. 224 23 02 44, www.ambi.cz.
This classic yet laid back Italian serves up delicous and not
over-priced culinary creations, and the service is superb. Try
the carpaccio con tartufi to begin and if you make it past
the long list of homemade pasta, the steak and salmon
are both expertly cooked. Chocolate fondue for dessert is
a great finish for a great meal in a great restaurant. Check
out their excellent lunch deals. QOpen 11:00 - 24:00. (120
- 350Kč). AGP
Bellevue C-3, Praha 1, Smetanovo nábřeží 18,
MNárodní třída, tel. 222 22 14 43, www.pfd.cz. A fantastic
setting, looking out to Charles Bridge, the castle and
the Vltava, and a classic atmosphere sets the scene for you
to feel dead posh if you want and if you can afford it. Chef
Petr Bures prepares dishes like fillet of fallow deer with rose
hip sauce, caramelised pears, homemade spätzle and wild
mushrooms. Try their jazz brunch on Sundays. Q Open 12:00
- 15:00, 17:30 - 23:00; Sun 11:00 - 15:30, 19:00 - 23:00.
(1,000 - 2,000Kč). ABEGPTU
variety of diverse and delicious cuisine including American,
Italian and, of course, Czech. Read some foreign papers and
enjoy anything from duck and spinach salad to surf and turf.
Alternatively, listen to live piano music and sample one of its
all-you-can-eat seafood, Italian or sushi buffets for the evening.
QOpen 06:30 - 23:00. (300 - 500Kč). AE
Dinitz Café I-3, Praha 1, Na Poříčí 12, MNáměstí Republiky,
tel. 222 31 40 71, www.dinitz.cz. Art Deco chic
permeates the décor of this new Grand Café-style restaurant
and bar. With homemade bread, butter and condiments and
