16 housing and student servicesHousing and student servicesLund is a very small and compact city meaning that wherever your housing is located,you are never that far from lectures, whether by foot, bike or bus. With excellent publictransport, it is also easy to live and commute from the larger city of Malmö (only 10minutes by train to Lund) or even Helsingborg (30 minutes by train to Lund).LU Accommodation is a service at Lund University whichmanages some of the student housing available in Lund,Malmö and Helsingborg, including housing for students witha housing guarantee. Student housing is of a high quality withcentral heating, triple glazed windows and bright interiorskeeping interiors warm, light and comfortable. The followingdescriptions relate to LU Accommodation housing for whichexchange, Bachelor’s and Master’s students can apply.Corridor rooms: These rooms are along a corridor withother students. Most corridors have 10 to 12 rooms. Therooms usually have an en suite toilet but share a commonkitchen area, living room space and in some cases bathrooms.All the shared areas are equipped for basic cooking. Internetconnection is offered in most corridor rooms.Studio flats: These are self-contained rooms that combine aliving room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette into one singleunit. The bathroom has a toilet, shower and wash basin. Noareas are shared with other students except the laundry room.Furnishings: Rooms and flats are usually furnished with abed, mattress, desk, chair, bookshelf and basic lighting fixtures.Costs: If you rent accommodation from LU Accommodationyou can expect typical rents to range from SEK 3 200 – 4 800per month, depending on the specific accommodation you areoffered. You will also have to pay a deposit of SEK 2000 whenyou sign the contract.Lund - the city of bikesThe easiest way to get aroundLund is by bike. Lund has160 kilometres of cycle pathsacross the city, so your class isnever more than 20 minutesby bike from most accommodationoptions. Every day,people in Lund cycle as muchas 4 times around the worldtogether! Students also find accommodationthrough other private accommodation agencies.housing guaranteeStudents who are required to pay tuition fees and whoare coming to study full-time courses of at least 30 ECTScredits receive a guaranteed offer of housing, takingthe hassle out of searching for your own accommodation.The housing guarantee is also offered to studentswith a Linnaeus-Palme scholarship and University ofCalifornia students coming through an exchange.
