Anticipated Impacts and Mitigation Measures4.2 Water EnvironmentConstruction PhaseThe construction phase would involve water requirements for the following activitiessite preparation: Involves levelling for infrastructure development and removal ofvegetation. Water is required for dust settlement, consolidation, compaction and curing.Construction of building infrastructure involves water for construction activities anddomestic and other water requirements for labour and staff onsite. The period of this activity is the be mentionedImpact Prediction Use of large quantities of water in curing Use during the operational phase by residence for routine activitiesMitigation MeasuresMeasures for reducing water demand during constructionTo avoid wastage of curing water, following guidelines are to be followed: Curing water should be sprayed on concrete structures; free flow of water should notbe allowed for curing. After liberal curing on the first day, all concrete structures should be painted withcuring chemical to save water. This will stop daily water curing hence save water.Concrete structures should be covered with thick cloth/gunny bags and then watershould be sprayed on them. This would avoid water rebound and will ensure sustainedand complete curing.Ponds should be made using cement and sand mortar to avoid water flowing awayfrom the flat surface while curing.Water ponding should be done on all sunken slabs, this would also highlight theimportance of having an impervious formwork.4The quantity of ground water usage and waste water generated during both the phases is to beestimated based on the population, reuse and recycle activities planned. Based on thequantification of waste water, the treatment plants should be suitably designed. The effluentdischarge standards are given in Annexure 10.4.3 Air EnvironmentAnticipated ImpactConstruction phase would involve site clearances and preparation, infrastructure development, building construction and other related activities andOperational phase would involve emission from vehicular movement and diesel generators, and negligible emissions from sewage and solid waste handling and disposal. The building material carrying vehicles as well as the construction machinery generate emissionsAdministrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad19
