Anticipated Impacts and Mitigation Measurespaved and at least 1.2 metres wide with a maximum gradient of 1 in 10. The surface of the pathshould be smooth, continuous and hardwearing. Ramped kerbs should be provided where thepath meets the highway, and bins should not have to pass across designated parking spaces.Where collection vehicles have to enter developments, there should be sufficient space on pavedroads with turning circles for easy circulation. This ensures the refuse vehicles to enter the vicinityof the site without being prevented from doing so by cars parked close to the entrance. Vehiclesshould never have to reverse onto or from a highway to make a collection. Roadways used byrefuse vehicles must be designed to withstand a laden weight of not less than 28 tonnes.Municipal Solid Waste ManagementWaste generated by users- Domestic wastes food leftovers, vegetable peels, plastic, housesweepings, clothes, ash, etc. commercial waste generally comprises of paper, cardboard, plastic, wastes like batteries, bulbs, tube lights etc.4Three-bin system is a good option for segregation at household level. Storage facilities should becreated and established by taking into account quantities of waste generation in a given area andthe population densities. A storage facility should be so placed that it is accessible to users, withina radius of 25 meter from the source. Local authorities should provide different coloured bins fordifferent categories of waste. Adequate provision should be made for storage of solid waste.Three colours of wheeled bins: - dark grey for non-recyclable waste, green for kitchen food/compostable garden waste and blue for paper (generally used for flats, schools, offices etc). Inaddition, boxes must be provided for the collection of other recyclable materials; a green box isused for paper and a black box is used for cans and plastic collections. Individual propertiesshould be allocated a 20-litter bin although for single-family occupancy. Boxes should have lids.Flats and multi-storeyed buildings should have bulk dustbin type container, with a general guideof one 1100 litre bin being adequate for every 60 units, for smaller blocks. The one to five ratiooutlined above could be increased or decreased according to the number or properties with greateror less than two bedrooms per unit. The ratio of approx one paper bin to three residual wastebins is only a guide. Waste and Cleansing Section can advise on individual cases.Hazardous Waste ManagementProducts, such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides that contain potentially hazardousingredients require special care when you dispose of them. Improper disposal of householdhazardous wastes can include pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers,or in some cases putting them out with the trash.Hazardous wastes from construction and demolition activities are centering oil, formwork oil,tar and tar products (bitumen, felt, waterproofing compounds, etc.), wood dust from treatedwood, lead containing products, chemical admixtures, sealants, adhesive solvents, Explosivesand related products and equipment used in excavation, acrylics, and silica, etc. The dustbins forthese wastes should be made of durable materials like metal, HDPE, fibre glass and masonry ifthe projects spans for more than a year.List of Hazardous wastes from construction projectsAsbestos products – insulation, tiles etcFuels and Heating oils and other volatile / flammable liquids such as coolants, greaseetc.Centering oil, formwork oilAdministrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad25
