Peter and Paul is the RomanCatholic cathedral in the city <strong>of</strong> Bristol. Located in the Cliftonarea <strong>of</strong> the city, it is the seat <strong>of</strong> the Diocese <strong>of</strong> Clifton and isknown as Clifton Cathedral, or Paddy’s wig-wam. Commissionedin 1965, the design was by R. Weeks, F.S. Jennett and A.Poremba <strong>of</strong> the Percy Thomas Partnership. Construction tookplace 1970-73 by John Laing & Son Ltd, also the main contractorat Coventry Cathedral. The Cathedral was consecrated on29 June 1973, replacing a wooden-framed pro-Cathedral thathad been built in the mid-19th century. It can group 1,000people closely around the high altar.
