Kol Nidre: Past, Present and Future25נְ‏ דרנא ודי חְ‏ רמנא וכו'‏ משמעותן לשעבר וכוונתם לבטל מה שנדרוואסרו ונשבעו וטעות הוא בידם....‏84די ruled: And that is what most of the early authorities‏,ודי חָ‏ רמנא ודי אָסרנא ודי מָ‏ שתבענא with a qametz, and נָדרנאfor the reference of these expressions is to the future. Thosewho read (them) with a חְ‏ רמנא ‏,די נְ‏ דרנא—‏shewa ‏,ודי etc.—their reference is to the past, and their intention is to annulwhat they have (already) vowed, resolved, and sworn. Joseph Abudarham:והוקשה לרבינו תם מה מועיל להתיר על מה שעברו כבר והנהיגלומר מיום הכיפורים זה ‏[ע]ד יום הכיפורים הבא עלינו לטובה.‏ וגםהנהיג לומר דנדרנא ודמשתבענא....‏85Rabbenu Tam found it difficult (to understand) what use itis to release (vows) that have already been violated, and sohe instituted the practice of saying “from this Yom Kippurto (next) Yom Kippur, coming (we pray) favorably uponus” and he also instituted the practice of saying “that I shallvow and that I shall swear.”R.
