Employees Axpo is a reliable employer, even in diffi cult economic times. In the year under review, Axpo Group had an average workforce of 4092 full-time employees, who ensure that our customers have access to reliable and environmentally friendly power at all times. Their know-how and commitment are a prerequisite for our corporate success. As Axpo wants to be an attractive employer for its current and potential employees, it offers a broad spectrum of training and educational opportunities, as well as individual development plans for employees following a specialist or management career and a corporate culture that allows the employees to develop and foster their skills. Axpo accepts its responsibilities, even when the economy is suffering a downturn, and offers a fascinating working environment in an industry that combines a pioneering spirit and cutting-edge technology. Ongoing training and further education Axpo sets specifi c standards as regards the qualifi cation of its employees and managers, to which end it has established its own modular training programme. The training courses on offer meet with a positive response from employees and managers, particularly as these courses are reviewed annually and adjusted to ensure that the employees always have access to training and further education opportunities. Vocational training is seeing positive developments. Over the past four years Axpo has substantially increased the number of training positions. During the 2008/09 fi nancial year, 345 apprentices fi nished their apprenticeships in 22 professions with Axpo. By training its own young talents, Axpo is investing not only in its own competitive strength and future, but also discharges an important social and political obligation. Attracting and retaining a new generation of managers Axpo aims to fi ll as many as possible of its vacant specialist and management positions with internal staff. At the same time it wishes to offer interesting career opportunities to its employees and managers and retain valuable know-how for the Group. The management development programme creates the necessary conditions and allows Axpo to promote potential management candidates and support a systematic succession planning process. During the 2008/09 fi nancial year, 30 candidates attended the Axpo Development Centre, thereby enrolling for a two-year development process which should prepare them to take on greater management or project management responsibility. As Axpo intends to successfully hold its ground in the fi ght for the best young talent, in particular university graduates, the Group has expanded its personnel and university marketing activities in the past few years. Opportunities to introduce the Group to students and graduates of Swiss universities of applied sciences and universities and to establish contact with them are systematically exploited.
