LIPA h<strong>as</strong> established areputation <strong>as</strong> one of the UK’s leading highereducation institutions <strong>for</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mers <strong>and</strong> thosewho make per<strong>for</strong>mance possible <strong>and</strong> attractsstudents from all over the world.LOCATIONLIPA is located in a majestic Grade II listed19th Century building, just 10 minutes’ walkfrom Liverpool city centre. VOCATIONAL COURSESOFFERED – PERFORMINGLIPA offers a three year BA (Hons) <strong>Dance</strong>degree validated by Liverpool John MooresUniversity. Students have up to 16 dancetechnique cl<strong>as</strong>ses per week, in addition tocl<strong>as</strong>ses in choreography, acting <strong>and</strong> singingtechnique, contextual studies <strong>and</strong> professionaldevelopment. There are dance techniquecl<strong>as</strong>ses in ballet, jazz, contemporary, street,<strong>and</strong> tap, plus an innovative <strong>Dance</strong> Fusionscl<strong>as</strong>s combining new <strong>and</strong> traditional dancestyles. The students’ per<strong>for</strong>mance projectsare directed/choreographed by our staff <strong>and</strong>,in later stages of the degree, by professionalscurrently working in the field. LIPA h<strong>as</strong>established links with agents <strong>and</strong> c<strong>as</strong>tingdirectors <strong>and</strong> h<strong>as</strong> regular m<strong>as</strong>tercl<strong>as</strong>ses <strong>and</strong>workshops delivered by industry figures.L<strong>as</strong>t year, these included LaVelle Smith Jr, theEmmy-winning US choreographer <strong>and</strong> SteveNestar, one of Madonna’s principal dancers<strong>and</strong> choreographers. <strong>Dance</strong> students oftencollaborate with students studying otherdisciplines at LIPA, including those studyingMusic, Acting, Management <strong>and</strong> Per<strong>for</strong>manceDesign <strong>and</strong> Technology. The course aims toprovide the best opportunities <strong>for</strong> gaining<strong>and</strong> sustaining employment in the commercialdance/entertainment sector. LIPA’s graduatesare working in musical theatre <strong>and</strong> currentWest End <strong>and</strong> touring productions. Many havejoined reputable dance companies, whilstothers have established their own. Manyhave portfolio careers <strong>and</strong> have appeared inmusic videos <strong>and</strong> TV commercials <strong>and</strong> gainregular work <strong>as</strong> dancers <strong>and</strong> choreographersin the f<strong>as</strong>hion, corporate, hospitality <strong>and</strong>leisure industries.OTHER COURSES OFFEREDLIPA also offers a one year, full-time LIPAFoundation Certificate in Per<strong>for</strong>ming Arts(<strong>Dance</strong>). This intensive course is intended tohelp students to develop <strong>as</strong> multi-facetedper<strong>for</strong>mers. It is designed to give them acompetitive edge to potentially help themgain a degree place at a leading per<strong>for</strong>mingarts institution. The programme is notintended to replace a Level 3 qualificationbut to supplement it. Approximately 50%of the time is spent on concentrating ondeveloping the students’ specialist skillsin dance. There are also cl<strong>as</strong>ses in acting<strong>and</strong> singing, professional studies, actingthrough song <strong>and</strong> repertoire <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong>two per<strong>for</strong>mance project modules.HOW TO APPLYFor the dance degree applicants shouldapply via UCAS by the UCAS Deadlineof 15th January.
