8 St. Luke’s is truly a locally-owned hospital organization serving a broad region, with no reliance on outside support from a larger system or corporation. Like other not-for-profit hospitals, we are facing a multitude of challenges — increasing charity care, declining reimbursement, rapid growth of niche providers — but these are made surmountable through the expertise of our volunteer boards. The diverse backgrounds of these dedicated men and women bring expertise that helps position us for the future. Our roots are grounded in charity, yet even not-for-profit hospitals must be financially healthy in order to reinvest in the services our community needs.
