It is our commitment to provide care to every person who turns
to us, regardless of their ability to pay. Covering charity care
and other unreimbursed costs, plus the reinvestment of revenues
into the community we serve, is what it means to be a communityowned
hospital.
Hundreds of community services are studied and prioritized each
year by our boards of directors and staff to determine those
services we are able to initiate or continue to fund. These include
services for the elderly, children, poor, those with specific diseases,
plus various types of education. In 2004, St. Luke’s subsidized more
than $10 million for these vital programs.
We believe in going beyond acute care, and we strongly believe
that an ounce of prevention is often the right medicine. These are
the reasons St. Luke’s provides safety, wellness and educational
programs. No matter the hour of day, we’re available to answer
questions and supply information, from free, confidential nurse
consultations through Call St. Luke’s to thousands of health topics
on our website. It’s all part of our charge to provide services that
help consumers achieve and maintain good health.
