First, while the experiencedunderwriters and managers came from different backgrounds, they reached a remarkable level ofagreement on the skill, tasks and knowledge under each skill area. These skills applied to all lines ofcoverage (with some variation).Second, while Liberty’s training staff anticipated that it would be able to leverage commercially availabletraining that directly addressed these skills, the team found that off-the-shelf materials provided spottycoverage of what were identified as core skills.Accordingly, while the curriculum is able to leverage some commercial materials, much of the content isbeing developed using Liberty subject matter experts. These experts are also able to provide furthercontext to the new underwriter by incorporating Liberty’s business strategies and corporate competenciesinto the underwriting training.Curriculum development efforts started in late 2003, and continue with the development of Libertyspecificunderwriting training.
