Herbert Smith CentreUniversity <strong>of</strong> New Brunswick• To combine the flexibility <strong>of</strong> asynchronous learning with the ability for real-time interactions,five faculty and administrators from three universities used a blended approach in thedelivery <strong>of</strong> a new entrepreneurship course, Business Planning and Strategy in anEntrepreneurial Environment.• Blended learning is “a learning program where more than one delivery mode is being usedwith the objective <strong>of</strong> optimizing the learning outcome and cost <strong>of</strong> program delivery.”• Faculty members were highly motivated to enhance collaborative entrepreneurship edu<strong>cation</strong>;they were encouraged by institutional initiatives to share intellectual assets by using emergingtechnologies.• The course employed a variety <strong>of</strong> activities—reading assignments, workshops and lectures,case studies, guest speakers, a business simulation game, and an entrepreneur’s toolkit.• The learning technologies created a synergy and net gains in the edu<strong>cation</strong>al experience thatcould not have been achieved in the physical classroom.41
