<strong>The</strong> Elipse <strong>of</strong> <strong>Islam</strong>________________________________________________________famous branches <strong>of</strong> this sect. <strong>The</strong> other sect is called <strong>The</strong> Twelvers or,simply, Imamia. <strong>The</strong> dominant majority <strong>of</strong> Shias belong <strong>to</strong> this sect; theyrecognize 12 Imams. About the last Imam (Mohammad) <strong>of</strong> this chain theybelieve that he is alive and hidden in a cave in Iraq. He will reappear nearthe Day <strong>of</strong> Judgment and establish his just rule all over the whole world. (Heis also called Imam Mehdi.)Staunch Sects <strong>of</strong> ShiasAll Shia sects believe that the Imam is appointed <strong>by</strong> God and their hiddenImam will return. However, the beliefs <strong>of</strong> some staunch Shia sects arebased on exaggerations. For example, one sect, Khurrum Deenia,considered the Imam as God, prophet and angel. It did not believe in theDay <strong>of</strong> Judgment and denied any accountability <strong>of</strong> one’s deeds <strong>to</strong> God. Thissect believed in the concept <strong>of</strong> ‘<strong>The</strong> Return <strong>of</strong> the Imam’.This sect also believed in reincarnation which they called raja [transfer <strong>of</strong>the human spirit (in this world) from one body <strong>to</strong> another body]. Certainstaunch sects believed that our prophet and other prophets will return <strong>to</strong>earth near the Day <strong>of</strong> Judgment and all will recognise the prophet-hood <strong>of</strong>Mohammad. Similarly, Ali will also return <strong>to</strong> earth and will assassinateMoawiyya and his descendants.<strong>The</strong> founder <strong>of</strong> Khattabia sect, Abu Khattabia used <strong>to</strong> call Imam Jafar SadeqGod and himself his prophet.Whenever some Imams denied and opposed such beliefs, these peoplesaid that they are saying this because <strong>of</strong> taqiyya, otherwise they suppor<strong>to</strong>ur beliefs. (Earlier we explained the meaning <strong>of</strong> taqiyya which is a beliefcommon <strong>to</strong> all Shia sects.)
