T H E b i b l Eif we are awaiting a new Zion [i.e., a new Jerusalem,which is the new church community of the redeemed peopleof God], then, in our hearts we must prepare for that Zionand disregard the position presently defined by anyone’schurch confession. In our hearts we must make ready toserve God alone. And if we become fellow workers with Godtoward that end, then we will again be biblical. It certainlyis no fine or helpful word to call a person “biblical” simplybecause he follows and is zealous for the confessions.The “biblical” keeps itself free. Thus, as it has always been,so today it also is difficult to seek and to give expression tothat which is of God. Rather, so much of the human hasfound expression that the “biblical” now appears as somesort of defense for our civil and social life. Thus it can happenthat finally someone with a biblical truth must be willingto be seen as a corrupter of the state and of the church.Yet even so, Christ the Cornerstone stands eternal; andfrom this stone ever and again will come “the new”—untilheaven and earth are themselves made new and the old hasgone down before the new, in-streaming kingdom of God.people speak much these days about “the inspirationof scripture”; and this is good.
