I think that many people gradually become unbelieversbecause, of course, they don’t have the right God. Inthe course of time, Christendom has dropped the right Godand acquired a philosophical God—still under the name ofthe old faith but without the actual reality. The true realityhas slipped away. One thinks of God simply as someone inthe upper spheres who does not manifest himself to us inour circles as a God of action...No wonder so many folks become unbelievers! I wouldn’tbelieve in such a God either. “If that which you are preachingto me is God, then I am through; then I will not becomea pastor!” This was my sentiment even when I was at theuniversity. “You have the same words, but you no longerhave the thing itself. You postulate a God without hands,without a mouth, without feet—so that we can simply do aswe please. God has to keep his mouth shut and is prohibitedfrom doing anything.” No thanks; I won’t believe in such aGod!The same holds true for Christ. When anyone speaks of255
