Taken together, media-reported homicides occurringduring the night and pre-dawn hours claimed the lives of 8,377 persons or60.19% of victims, compared with 3,283 persons killed during the day(morning/afternoon). For 2,257 victims (16.22%), the sources did notreport the time of the incident.The increased incidence on weekends may be explained by the factthat people tend to travel outside their ordinary trajectories (home-workhome)and venture into areas with which they are less familiar.
