Huskies Gymnastics Team F131717<br />

Youth and Adults with an Intellectual Disability<br />

Athletes will choose from either artistic gymnastics or<br />

rhythmic gymnastics. Artistic gymnastics includes<br />

tumbling, acrobatics and limited apparatus skills. Rhythmic<br />

gymnastics introduces dance while using hoops, ribbons,<br />

balls and ropes. You will improve your overall health<br />

and fitness through cardiovascular exercises, as well as<br />

increase your coordination, strength and flexibility. Athletes<br />

will train for the Special Olympics District competition in<br />

March. Competition details will be handed out as the event<br />

nears. Don’t miss this opportunity to try out this exciting<br />

sport. Please wear comfortable workout clothes to practice.<br />

Team! Swimmers will improve their overall fitness and<br />

perfect existing skills, before moving on to flip turns and<br />

competitive strokes. Swimmers will participate in local<br />

tournaments and train for the 2014 Special Olympics<br />

Summer Games in June. Swimmers must be able to<br />

swim one length of the pool in order to be on the team.<br />

NEDSRA wants to “pump you up!” Whether you want to<br />

tone, strengthen, build muscles or improve your overall<br />

fitness level, this program is for you. Don’t miss this<br />

opportunity to achieve your personal fitness goals, gain<br />

confidence and have fun at the same time! Athletes will<br />

be divided into workout groups based on their ability level<br />

and desired goals, and will be using various weight and<br />

aerobic machines. Individual progress will be monitored to<br />

maximize your potential.<br />

Attention Special Olympics bowlers! Team up with<br />

students from Elmhurst College for a season of<br />

competition and camaraderie this fall. Our Unifi ed<br />

Sports program expands sports opportunities for athletes<br />

seeking new challenges while promoting inclusion in the<br />

community. This is also a great chance for our regular<br />

bowlers to get some extra alley time while making and<br />

competing against new friends from the community.<br />

Youth and Adults with an Intellectual Disability<br />

“Hoop” it up in our popular basketball league and build<br />

teamwork, physical fitness, hand-eye coordination and<br />

socializing skills. Athletes will be divided into teams based<br />

on player’s ability. Throughout the season, each team will<br />

compete against teams from other Special Recreation<br />

Associations and participate in the Special Olympics<br />

Area 5 and ITRS Tournaments in January and February.<br />

A detailed schedule of practices and games will be<br />

provided within the first few weeks of the season.<br />
