started 65 of 92 appearances in his first
three years in Riverdale. The 6’6” power
forward who hails from Brooklyn has
averaged 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds
during his career. Gabriel is a doubledouble
threat who is creative around
the hoop and an agile shot blocker. He
returns as the Jaspers top scorer and
rebounder from a year ago when he
averaged nearly five points and four
rebounds per contest.
“Andrew is one of our top defenders
who can guard multiple positions,”
explained Rohrssen. “With the right
level of energy and a consistent level
of performance, we would like to see
Andrew contribute significantly.”
Jemison, a graduate transfer from
Alabama, is also expected to bring
veteran leadership to the hardwood. The
6’8”, 240 pound native of Birmingham,
Ala. will bolster the Jaspers front court
with his raw strength, speed and inside
skills. Jemison played his first three
seasons for the Crimson Tide, before
sitting out last year due to injury. With
93 games under his belt playing for the
Southeastern Conference power, Jemison
is expected to have an immediate impact
on the Jaspers program. Jemison’s most
successful year at Alabama came as a
sophomore when he started 32 of 33
games and averaged 5.6 points and 5.3
rebounds.
“Demetrius has played at a very high
level of collegiate basketball. We look
for him to bring that experience to our
ball club as he begins to write this new
chapter of his career,” said Rohrssen.
Manhattan also welcomes silky smooth
junior forward Martina who joins the
Jaspers squad after playing two years at
Miami Dade College. Martina is a 6’8”,
215 pound big man whose size and agility
gives Manhattan flexibility in the lineup.
The product of Pompano Beach, Fla. was
a Second Team All Southern Conference
honoree last season at Miami Dade
where he averaged 5.0 points, shot 41%
and logged a 78.9% mark from the freethrow
line.
“Rob is a long, athletic player who can
run the floor, finish at the rim and shoot
the ball,” stated Rohrssen.
Colonette is another experienced
newcomer whose 6’7”, 200 pound frame
can create match up problems. The
Queens native is the reigning Junior
College Region XV Division I Player of
the Year from ASA Institute. A 2010 Junior
College All American Honorable Mention,
Colonette averaged 12.5 points, 8.7
rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game for
the Avengers last season. Colonette was
a standout at Robert F. Kennedy High
School where he averaged over 20 points
and 20 rebounds in his final two seasons
at the PSAL Class B program.
“Roberto is a crafty player with good
fundamentals,” said Rohrssen. “He has
shown an ability to score the ball from
both inside and out.”
Brown is expected to be a mainstay in
the Jaspers’ front line for years to come.
The 6’6, 215 pound product from Transit
Tech High School in Brooklyn was a
2010 First Team All- PSAL honoree after
finishing 11th in scoring in Brooklyn AA
as a senior with 13.2 points per game.
Brown is a raw talent who possesses the
ability to dominate the glass on any given
night.
“Rhamel is an energizing type player
who has good instincts on the boards
and a knack for blocking shots,” said
Rohrssen.
Sophomore center Kevin Laue looks to
build on his first season with the program
where he appeared in 19 games. The
6’11” product from Pleasanton, Calif.,
uses his great size to clog the lane and
disrupt opposing offenses. Laue showed
glimpses of his rebounding and shot
blocking ability with a career-high eight
boards and two blocks over 17 minutes of
action at Vanderbilt.
“We would like to see Kevin continue
to develop and become a defensive
presence,” stated Rohrssen. “He is one
of our hardest workers and possesses a
tremendous attitude.”
The Jaspers also have junior center
Djibril Coulibaly as an option down low.
The 6’9” shot blocker from Mali has a long
athletic frame. He can run the floor, but
has battled injuries throughout his career.
“With Djibril’s size and length we would
like to see him make a contribution to this
year’s team,” said Rohrssen.
