GAME 3 • WILLIAM & MARY 75, MANHATTAN 70
NOV. 21, 2009 • DRADDY GYMNASIUM, RIVERDALE, N.Y.
Antoine Pearson went off for a career-high 24 points and Nick Walsh also had a career day
with 16 points, but it was William & Mary that came up on top earning a 75-70 victory over Manhattan
in Riverdale. Jaspers’ junior center Laurence Jolicoeur finished with eight points and a tied
a personal best with 10 rebounds. William & Mary seniors Danny Sumner (17), David Schneider
(16) and sophomore Quinn McDowell (14) each scored double-figures. The lead changed sides
six times in the first half, but not once in the second. Manhattan and William & Mary were locked
32-32 at intermission as the squads dueled from beyond the arc. Pearson and Walsh each had
three 3-pointers in the opening half as the Jaspers shot 50% (7-14) from downtown. The Tribe was
also efficient from 3-point range knocking down 42.9% (6-14) of its long balls. Sumner’s shots
began to drop in the second as he scored 12 of his 17 points in the stanza. He hit a trey just 25
seconds in to break the halftime tie. Manhattan’s Darryl Crawford also found his shooting touch,
after going 0-for-6 in the first half, and responded with back-to-back jumpers. With the buckets, the
Jaspers found themselves locked at 36-36. Crawford, a senior from New York City, was honored in
a pregame ceremony for becoming the 31st player to join the program’s 1,000-point club. William
& Mary strung together three unanswered trifectas over the next 2:32 for a 9-0 run to take a 45-36
lead. Sumner was responsible for two of the 3-pointers. The Tribe led by as many as 10 points
in the second half before the Jaspers engineered its comeback bid. Ignited by a double technical
on Crawford, which forced the senior guard to leave the game at 6:12, Manhattan surged back
to eventually cut William & Mary’s lead to 65-63 on Jolicoeur’s lay up in transition. The Jaspers
defense swarmed William & Mary to regain possession twice in the last three minutes with it a
two point game, but Manhattan came up empty both times down court. William & Mary broke the
Jaspers’ press after Pearson’s missed jumper and McDowell got a layup to extend its lead to four.
The Tribe converted free-throws in the last minute to hold off the Jaspers. Pearson’s hot shooting
(7-for-12) led the way for Manhattan which went 40.4% from the field and 44% from 3-point
territory. The senior from the Bronx was 5-for-8 from downtown to mark the most 3-pointers by a
Jasper since he sank six in victory over Siena at Draddy Gymnasium on Feb. 18, 2008. Walsh finished
with four 3-pointers in 29 minutes off the bench. Six players accounted for the Jaspers total
scoring. Patrick Bouli and Crawford each contributed nine points and Andrew Gabriel had four.
GAME 4 • MANHATTAN 73, FLORIDA ATLANTIC 66
NOV. 23, 2009 • DRADDY GYMNASIUM, RIVERDALE, N.Y.
Antoine Pearson led the Jaspers with 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists in a 73-66
victory over Florida Atlantic (2-2) at Draddy Gymnasium. Fellow Jasper seniors Darryl Crawford
(12) , Patrick Bouli (12) and Brandon Adams (10) each scored in double-figures to help Manhattan
(2-2) to its second home win of the year. Manhattan started rolling early and did not trail in the
contest. Bouli capped an initial 9-0 run with a 3-pointer and then a mid range jumper, both coming
in front of the Owls’ bench. Bouli had nine points in the first half to lead the Jaspers into the break
with a 30-23 advantage. The Cameroon native finished near perfect shooting 4-for-5 from the
field, including 2-for-2 from 3-point territory. The Jaspers defense forced11 turnovers in the first 20
minutes. Manhattan limited the Owls to just 25.8% (8-31) shooting from the field and 27.3% (3-11)
from downtown in the first half. Manhattan built its advantage to double-figures in the second half
to lead by as many as 12 points by the 11:40 mark on a Crawford to Djibril Coulibaly alley-oop. Adams
added all of his 10 points in the second half was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Owls’ freshman
guard Raymond Taylor sparked Florida Atlantic’s second half rally scoring 15 of his team-high
17 points in the stanza. He drained three 3-pointers, dished out four assists and made four steals
in the contest. Taylor’s biggest shot of the second half came with 6:19 remaining when he buried
a trey to cut the Jaspers’ advantage to 55-52. Florida Atlantic’s defensive stop the next time down
floor put the ball back in Taylor’s hands with it a one possession game. Pearson responded with
a defensive stop for Manhattan by swiping the ball from Taylor and taking it in for an uncontested
lay up. Pearson’s bucket sparked a 12-4 run which gave the Jaspers’ enough cushion to cruise to
the finish. Pearson (10-11) and Adams (6-6) anchored the Jaspers’ superb free-throw shooting
effort. Manhattan was 74.2% (23-31) from the line. The Jaspers were more conservative from
3-point range (4-8) after shooting 11-for-25 from downtown their last time out against William &
Mary. Laurence Jolicoeur and Nick Walsh were also bright spots for the Jaspers. Jolicoeur scored
nine points on 4-for-5 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Walsh, a 5’10” guard from Riverdale,
recorded four points and set a career-high with five rebounds.
