COUNCIL
C.J. Council enters his third year as assistant coach on the
Manhattan men’s basketball staff. He was promoted to this role
after serving a stint as the program’s coordinator of basketball
operations and director of Manhattan’s Summer Basketball Camp.
Council’s duties include player skill development, recruiting,
scouting, and film exchange. He works primarily with the Jaspers’
post players. Additionally, Council monitors the program’s
documentation for NCAA compliance, and is the liaison for student
events on campus.
A New York City native, Council came to Riverdale after
working as a graduate assistant at St. John’s University under
Head Coach Norm Roberts. As a member of the Red Storm staff,
Council was responsible for coordinating tape exchange.
Council, a graduate of St. John’s, earned his bachelors degree
in sports management in 2004. He earned his master’s degree in
education administration from St. John’s in 2008.
Prior to his time at St. John’s, Council served as an assistant
junior varsity coach for six seasons (2000-06) at his alma
mater Christ the King High School in Middle Village, Queens.
Additionally, he coached at New York City Tech for the 2005-06
season and AAU Team Odom during the summers from 2003-06.
