GAME 23 • MANHATTAN 72, MARIST 47
FEB. 5, 2010 • DRADDY GYMNASIUM, RIVERDALE, N.Y.
Darryl Crawford scored 20 points and grabbed four rebounds as the Jaspers rolled to a 72-47
rout of Marist in an ESPNU televised contest from Draddy Gymnasium. Manhattan’s balanced
scoring attack also featured 13 point efforts from Rico Pickett and George Beamon. It marked the
Jaspers’ ninth straight win over Marist at Draddy Gymnasium, a dominant stretch which began in
2002. The Jaspers opened the game with a 17-6 run in a wire-to-wire victory. Crawford scored
11 points in the first half as he carried Manhattan into the break with a 29-22 advantage. It was
the start of a another solid performance that the New York City native had against the Red Foxes
as he entered the game averaging 16.3 points in his first three meetings with Marist at Draddy
Gymnasium. Manhattan’s defense was stingy in the opening stanza as the Jaspers limited
Marist to just eight points over the first 14:51. Over this stretch Marist shot just 4-for-21 (19%) and
turned the ball over four times. Jaspers’ sophomore center Djibril Coulibaly was very active in
the first half scoring four points, grabbing four rebounds and blocking two shots in 11 minutes off
the bench. His effort featured a two handed put back dunk, which bounced out of camera view
above the rim, and then tickled the twine. Coulibaly set a career-high with four blocks. Manhattan
turned up its offense in the second half and shot 66.7% (16-24). Junior center Laurence Jolicoeur,
freshman swingman Mohamed Koita and Beamon combined for 21 of the Jaspers’ 43 second
half points. Beamon sank 4-of-6 field goal attempts and buried all five of his free-throws. Koita
matched a career-high and led the game with eight boards helping the Jaspers win the rebounding
battle 40-27. Pickett was an efficient 6-for-10 from the field and added four rebounds to
his stat line in 27 minutes off the bench. Freshman center Kevin Laue and sophomore walk-on
Liam McCabe-Moran each scored a bucket contributing to the Manhattan reserves’ effort which
outscored Marist 36-6. Senior point guard Patrick Bouli distributed six of the Jaspers 11 assists,
which marked a season high. Bouli pulled down four boards over a team-high 31 minutes. Manhattan
scored 40 of its points in the paint and prospered from 15 points off 11 Marist turnovers.
The Jaspers led by as many as 27 points and shot 49.2% (29-59) in the ball game.
GAME 24 • LOYOLA 62, MANHATTAN 56
FEB. 7, 2010 • DRADDY GYMNASIUM, RIVERDALE, N.Y.
The Manhattan men’s basketball team came up short on Super Bowl Sunday as the Jaspers
dropped a 62-56 decision to Loyola at Draddy Gymnasium. Darryl Crawford and Rico Pickett led
Manhattan with 19 points apiece. The Greyhounds’ balanced scoring attack, which went nine
players deep, was led by Shane Walker who posted his second straight double-double (12 points,
10 rebounds). Manhattan erased a two point halftime deficit and rallied out to a five point lead
(41-36) with 12:25 in the second half on Mohamed Koita’s 3-pointer from the wing. The product of
Cergy, France contributed a career-high nine points, while adding five rebounds and two steals to
his stat line. Loyola did not let the Jaspers’ advantage grow any larger, and with 5:39 remaining
Greyhounds’ junior guard Jamal Barney converted a 3-point play to earn a 48-46 advantage, a
lead they would not relinquish. Barney, the MAAC’s scoring champion in 2008-09 (18.1 ppg), finished
with seven points in 11 minutes off the bench. The Greyhounds outscored Manhattan 14-9
over the final five minutes. Crawford sank a pair of free-throws at 1:32 to pull within 54-52, but
the Jaspers could not come up with a defensive stop the next time down court to get any closer.
Loyola freshman guard Robert Olson sank a jumper helping Greyhounds kept it a two possession
ball game the rest of the way. The see-saw battle featured nine ties and six lead changes.
Both teams shot 35% from the field. Loyola capitalized on 19 points off 14 Manhattan turnovers.
Manhattan won the rebounding battle for the second straight contest (40-38), which was anchored
by a game-high 10 boards from Crawford. Senior guard Patrick Bouli added seven rebounds to
the effort. Crawford recorded his second career double-double. He also led Manhattan with three
steals, three blocks and two assists in 37 minutes. Pickett shot an efficient 7-for-15 (46.6%) from
the field. The junior guard from Alabama led the Jaspers into the break with 15 points, before
Loyola clamped down on him in the second half.
