GAME 27 • MANHATTAN 78, TOWSON 62
FEB. 20, 2010 • DRADDY GYMNASIUM, RIVERDALE, N.Y.
The Manhattan men’s basketball team opened with a 20-0 run and stormed past Towson 78-62
in at Draddy Gymnasium as part of ESPNU BracketBuster weekend. Senior forward Brandon
Adams contributed a career-high 18 points, along with a game-high eight rebounds in Manhattan’s
10th victory of the year. Manhattan shot a hot 53% from the field and dished out 22 assists, the
most assists in over two years. Manhattan came out of the gate strong on both ends of the court.
All five of the Jasper starters contributed to the 20 unanswered points, while also clamping down
defensively holding Towson without a point until the 11:34 mark when Isaiah Philmore converted
a free-throw. The Jaspers limited Towson without a field goal until under 10 minutes into the ball
game when senior forward Calvin Lee hit a midrange jumper to end the drought. Lee was one
of four Tigers who scored in double figures recording 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting. Manhattan
maintained a double-digit lead and entered intermission with a 33-21 advantage at the break.
Jaspers junior guard Rico Pickett had 11 points at halftime and finished with 17 points and five
assists. It was Pickett’s 23rd straight game scoring double-figures. Seniors Darryl Crawford and
Adams helped Manhattan maintain control in the second half. The Jaspers built their lead to as
many as 21 points (47-26) on Crawford’s lay up with 14:03 to go. The senior guard from New York
City gave the Jaspers a superb all-around effort finishing with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists
and two steals. Andrew Gabriel had one of his best games of the season, scoring 13 points and
grabbing seven rebounds to assist in the Jaspers’ third win in the last five games. Gabriel shot
6-for-9 (67%) from the field and had a block. Manhattan senior guards Patrick Bouli and Antoine
Pearson each tallied five assists in the Jaspers best sharing performance of the season. Bouli
added nine points and five rebounds to the effort.
GAME 28 • NIAGARA 74, MANHATTAN 72
FEB. 26, 2010 • DRADDY GYMNASIUM, RIVERDALE, N.Y.
The Manhattan men’s basketball team went on a furious 13-0 run over the last 6:29 to battle
back into the game, but came up just short falling to Niagara 74-72 on Senior Night at Draddy
Gymnasium. Senior forward Brandon Adams posted the third double-double (15 points, 10
rebounds) of his collegiate career in the Jaspers final home game of the regular-season. The
Jaspers faced a 15 point deficit after Purple Eagles’ guard Tyrone Lewis’s sixth 3-pointer of the
game with 6:29 to go. Manhattan took the devastating blow and used a pair of buckets and two
free-throws each from guards Antoine Pearson and Rico Pickett, and then a dazzling 3-point play
by Darryl Crawford to make it two possession ball game with 2:10 left. Pickett scored Manhattan’s
13th unanswered point with 23 seconds remaining on a jumper from the corner to bring the Jaspers
within 73-71 with 23 ticks on the clock. Although, Manhattan came up empty missing three
opportunities to record the equalizer in the final 20 seconds. Niagara shot a hot 64% (16-25) in
the second half with Lewis posting 13 of his game-high 21 points. He shot 4-for-5 from downtown
in the period. The Jaspers tried to keep up shooting 48.3% (14-29), but also relied on 13 of its 21
points off turnovers in the second half to play the Purple Eagles to an even 39-39 over the final
20 minutes. The Jaspers were led by Crawford who poured in 18 points and Pickett who added
17 more. Pearson received the spot start tallying 13 points, three rebounds and two assists over
28 minutes of work. Manhattan senior Patrick Bouli also contributed to the valiant effort pumping
in nine points and seven rebounds. Niagara carried a 35-33 advantage into intermission after a
first half which featured three ties and four lead changes. Crawford gave the Jaspers their first
advantage with a cross-over and fade away jumper to go up 14-12, a lead the Jaspers maintained
for the next nine minutes before the Purple Eagles final push to close the half.
