STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES
Standard Operating Procedure 1:
Identification of Participants
(CPA Standards: E3, E5)
The scheme is available to those histopathologists who report general surgical
pathology cases within laboratories derived largely from the old Yorkshire
Regional Health Authority area with additional participants from South Yorkshire,
Durham, North Tees and Newcastle. This includes consultants, staff grade and
associate specialists who have the authority to report independently on material
which is part of the scheme. Specialist trainees are encouraged to see the cases
and submit written responses.
At the start of each round the EQA Scheme Secretary emails the lead contact
within each laboratory with a copy of the participants list from the previous
circulation. The lead is asked to check for accuracy and highlight any participants
who wish to join or leave the scheme.
Once all the amendments are received the Scheme Secretary creates the
participants list for the circulation. Any notable changes such as a participant
leaving or a trainee qualifying are recorded against the participant in the ‘Record
of Responses.xls’ Excel document.
