French
If you want to acquire skills which
will give you an edge in the modern
European Workplace then languages should be
at the forefront of your priorities. Knowing a foreign
language opens doors to new fields, new cultures and
experiences. Today, people with foreign language skills are
in ever increasing demand, be it in the world of media,
sales, public relations, tourism, travel or education.
The AS and A2 courses extend naturally develop the skills
learned at GCSE. Both courses seek to develop your
language skills and appreciation of cultural aspects of France
and countries where the language is used. Over the two
years equal emphasis is placed on each of the four skills of
listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Candidates
preparing for the A2
components of the course will be
expected to develop a wider knowledge of the language
and a deeper understanding of French culture, together
with a higher level of critical awareness. You will be
expected to use the language extensively and to develop
ideas and opinions on a wide range of topics, including key
social, political and environmental issues which affect France
and Europe today.
The AS component comprises three papers as follows,

Grade A or B in French GCSE is Preferred.
Grade C will be considered subject to
interview.
Motivation and Interest.
Willingness to use the spoken language.
Willingness to take part in work experience
in France.
Specification
Edexcel AS/A2 Level French.
Assessment:
The course is modular in structure with
examinations taking place in June of Year 12
(AS) and June of year 13 (A2)
French would go well with ….
Various subjects such as English, German,
ICT, History, Religious studies, Geography,
Maths and Business Studies.
This course will run subject to sufficient numbers of
students opting for the course, availability of staff and
restrictions imposed by the timetable.
1. Speaking (for about 10 minutes) on one of these topics;
a) Youth culture
b) Lifestyle, health and fitness
c) The world around us
d) Education and employment
2. Listening, reading and writing.
Prospects:
The importance of languages in the modern workplace
cannot be underestimated and a qualification in French at
this level will be a valuable asset. AS/A2 level French gives
you access to a wide range of degree courses including
those in languages, European studies and international
management. With the expansion of the European Union,
it combines particularly well with Business Studies to offer
exciting career prospects, both at home and abroad.
