Religious Studies<br />
Religious Studies is an absolute<br />
must for anyone with a logical mind who<br />
enjoys argument and discussion and is<br />
prepared to think for themselves. If you are interested<br />
in the ideas and beliefs of others but don’t take things at<br />
face value, this is the subject for you. You will also have a<br />
chance to look at a different and fascinating culture through<br />
visiting Hindu temples.<br />

Unit one - Philosophy of Religion - 4 topics are studied.<br />
1 The Cosmological Argument<br />
2 Religious Experience<br />
3 Psychology and Religion<br />
4 Atheism and Postmodernism<br />
Unit two - Hinduism - 4 topics are studied<br />
1 The Hindu concept of God - Brahman, the personal<br />
deities<br />
2 Means to Liberation in Hinduism - exploration of the<br />
different yogas<br />
3 Worship in Hinduism<br />
4 The Hindu way of life - an exploration of different stages<br />
of life.<br />
A2 Level - Unit one either<br />
Hinduism - 4 topics are studied<br />
1 Foundations of Hinduism<br />
2 Hindu Dharma - duties guiding moral behaviour<br />
3 Hinduism and Society in the modern world - reform<br />
movements including Gandhi<br />
4 Hindu Philosophy<br />
Or - Philosophy of Religion - 4 topics are studied<br />
1 Ontological argument and the relationship between<br />
reason and faith<br />
2 Religious Language<br />
3 Body, soul and personal identity<br />
4 The problem of evil.<br />
Unit two either<br />
Religious Fundamentalism<br />
Study of at least 2 religious fundamentalist movements<br />
eg. Muslim Brethren. What is fundamentalism?<br />
Or - Religion in Contemporary Society<br />
Includes challenges posed by the practice of religion<br />
today - religious freedom, wearing of religious dress,<br />
challenges of practising religion in a secular society.<br />
Differing attitudes to marriage and family life structure<br />
of religions and interfaith dialogue.<br />
Prospects:<br />
Widely accepted as an entry qualification for many degree<br />
courses, excellent training for any course or career which<br />
demands logical thinking and any course or career that<br />
leads you to working in a multifaith situation.<br />
