AS Leisure Studies
This will be a one year course and
will lead to an AS qualification. At this
stage there is no intention of offering this
subject at A2 level. The course requires students to
undertake in depth research into the Leisure Industry.
During the course the main units of study are:
Exploring Leisure
This may be completed as a portfolio task which requires
students to find out about the different sectors and
components of the Leisure Industry, how the industry has
changed over time and reasons for this change. Students
are expected to give evidence of this change using named
examples and statistical data.
Customer Service in the
Leisure Industry
Pupils are required to visit a leisure facility and undertake
research into this facility in order to analyse its customer
service provision.
Leisure Industry practice
This is an examined unit which requires students to
research further into the running of a facility, studying health
and safety, marketing, budgeting, measuring quality and
business systems. This unit will be of particular interest to
students wishing to follow a career in the leisure industry.

This course includes portfolio units and a
written examination.
Leisure Studies would

This course will run subject to sufficient numbers of
students opting for the course, availability of staff and
restrictions imposed by the timetable.
