Media Studies
Media is one of the fastest growing
and most popular industries. The Media
Studies AS and A2 level course is one which
offers a diverse curriculum area and an opportunity to
specialise in your own interest e.g. Film, Television, Radio,
Newspaper or Magazine.
Coursework is practical and requires imagination, time and
effort. It can be completed in groups or individually if you
prefer. There is, amongst other options, the opportunity to
make, edit and sound track a short film / documentary, or
create a new website for a product of your choice. You can
create a series of advertisements for a new product or,
using cross media skills, a topic which covers all three.
Media Studies requires you to be creative, imaginative and
analytical. It gives you the opportunity to study some of the
most widely debated topics such as Censorship in Film,
Television Drama, Institutions and their audiences etc.
It also gives you the opportunity to expand your own
research in to popular areas such as the computer game
industry or Journalism.
Students often take Media studies because they have a
particular interest in one of the many media industries such
as animation, gaming or TV / Film. If you dream of working
in these industries or related ones, such as Journalism and
ICT, this is the course for you.
Students are given the opportunity to work individually
and in groups, to visit industry work places and bring other
subjects they are studying in to their work (Art, Drama etc).
It is hard work and time consuming but it is rewarding and
an opportunity to express those creative juices!
