If a Spill or Overfill<br />
Occurs:<br />
SPILL MITIGATION ACTION<br />
1. STOP THE UNLOADING of product from the tanker truck.<br />
2. SPREAD ABSORBENT MATERIALS to retard the spread of the spill prior to<br />
disconnecting product hoses or fittings. Prevent the spilled product from reaching<br />
unpaved surfaces or area drains.<br />
3. ESTABLISH FIRE PREVENTION measures around the vicinity of the spill.<br />
4. NOTIFY MTC-Fort Pickett Environmental Coordinator and convey the following<br />
information:<br />
a. Location of spill,<br />
b. Extent/ quantity of spill,<br />
c. Source/ cause of spill,<br />
d. Whether or not spill flow has been stopped, and<br />
e. Action taken to contain the spill.<br />
5. Refer to General Spill Containment/ Cleanup Procedures outlined below.<br />
B.2 CONTAINMENT/ CLEANUP PROCEDURES<br />
NOTE: Containment and cleanup of spill incidents which potentially may expose workers to<br />
hazardous materials, health hazards, or safety hazards must be performed by personnel properly<br />
trained in accordance with OSHA, hazardous waste operations and emergency response training<br />
protocol.<br />
B.2.1 SPECIFIC CONTAINMENT/ CLEANUP INFORMATION<br />
Specific spill containment/ spill cleanup information is available on the product Material Safety Data<br />
Sheets, which are available in the work areas. Refer to this information for emergency response.<br />
This information includes:<br />
• Emergency response,<br />
• Spill containment procedures,<br />
• Cleanup procedures,<br />
• Container,<br />
• Personal Protective Equipment, and<br />
• Fire Extinguisher.<br />
B.2.2 GENERAL CONTAINMENT/ CLEANUP INFORMATION<br />
B.2.2.1 Equipment and Resources<br />
Disposable equipment and resources are used for containment and cleanup procedures whenever<br />
possible, and are disposed of along with the spilled substance. These items are replaced to their<br />
prior inventory level as soon as practically possible. Non-disposable equipment used are properly<br />
decontaminated and restored to readiness for future use.<br />
