Fort Portal, Uganda … the Portal to the Parks By Peter Hogel of Uganda Explorer The Photo collecting for Uganda Explorer continues and has taken me to Fort Portal four hours from Kampala and the place to start…where ever you want to go. I want you to remember when looking at these photos, this time I was actually here to connect with the lodges and hotels I didn’t even enter the parks we just passed by or through on the main road. Around these areas are parks like Kibale (chimps) Rwanzori mountains (climbing/ walking) Semuliki, the hot springs and Queen Elisabeth NP, that one basically for whatever you want to do or see. Some of these parks can introduce you to 12 species of primates, we saw 4 without even entering and of course numerous birds. Here we took the winding mountain road to Semuliki, you can see the hot springs here… I didn’t, didn’t enter the park… but stopped by, saw some black and white colobus monkeys, colobus, meaning mutilated.. they only have four fingers and continued on to visit the cocoa plantation. I did get some cocoa seeds, that I roasted, peeled, turned into powder and made ..probably the best cup of hot chocolate I ever had. In the surrounding areas of Fort Portal , you can go hiking, cycling, visit the waterfalls, crater lakes and caves these are not even included in the parks. Now. Writing this story I had a problem, somewhere I went, to write about it or not, and I decided to write, because I can easily turn this trip to officially be about fun ´n games and adventures… but the truth is that there’s of course things that aren’t the way you’d like them to be, and this is one… Website = photosociety.net Page 19 email = magazine@photosociety.net
