On Safari – what does it mean? We’ve all heard people saying “we are going on a safari”? There is so much more than coming here to view wildlife. The beautiful coastline of South Africa, the Cape wine lands, the desert and dunes of Namibia, the wonder of the Delta in Botswana…and the list is endless! South Africa On Safari by Tom Coetzee So when you go on safari to come and view wildlife, whether this is the open plains of East Africa or the woodlands Southern Africa or the jungles of Rwanda, it’s all different. I know I’ve been doing this for 19 years and have to hear people say “we’re definitely coming back” all the time. And sure people do keep on coming back, keep on sending messages of wanting to come back and keep in contact…we will not be able to see our entire wonderful world, but we sure do meet all of it! I can probably do a trip around the globe and not have to stay in hotel!!! Visiting Africa is a journey, an eye opener to some Westerners and a life changing experience. Culture shock, beauty, diversity… “impactious” (that word does not exist, I just created it!) One trip can impact your life, like a virus…it grows in you and you will get withdrawal symptoms. Wanting to go back…not that many places will do this to you, but I can assure you a trip into the African wilderness very often does this to people. You would either have to hope for that unknown family member that will think of you in their will and leave you a great inheritance or get a good paying job, as you will want to come year after year. Cape Town and it’s Winelands, the Garden route, Wildlife, Mountains and Kalahari… affordability with our currency against the big currencies. Where were we? Oh yes, going on Safari… maybe someone should write a song on this, but coming to mind is the well-known song of Toto “Africa”. Being South African I am obviously tending to promote my own country, but in all fairness you have to look at it logically. For many people a trip to Africa will be a lifer! Some may do one more after retirement…with some of our wildlife diminishing under the pressure of poaching; maybe it should be done sooner than later! The advantage South Africa will present is its accessibility, infra-structure and diversity. Being a hub into other countries of the continent also helps and it becomes easy to plan your trip from here. Come jump on a “Jeep” as everyone says and keep those cameras handy, the bush will always deliver a photographic opportunity as long as you are ready to shoot! The world is in turmoil, you might as well enjoy the ride, do it while you can and have a great time! I hope your taste buds have been awoken and have a great <strong>2015</strong>!
