I hear the next easel will be coming to town in a
couple of weeks, and if they didn’t need the
easels that they have down at the art-gallery for
daily classes, I could have borrowed one, but
they do…
So easel schmeasel, I can understand there’s no
huge demand for easels, but lamps, surely
everyone needs light? And I mean more than a
single bulb in the middle of the ceiling which
seems to be the norm.
As I was asking around and a little Mexican
man was trying to help me, all of a sudden a
HUGE Mexican man who had overheard our
conversation turned around to suggest a place
for me.
It is all very hilly. Another hill, is on the other
side of the pier. I’ve spent many hours losing
myself in the beautifully paved and winding
narrow roads there.
They are surrounded by sweet smelling forest,
providing beautiful sounds of a humble
orchestra of birds and bugs, and many rustling
sounds leaving me even more curious. I have
hardly met a soul wandering these hills, and all
the roads seem to lead to a dead end. It’s all
very suspicious to me…
He was so huge I hadn’t even noticed him at
first, maybe it’s like a small dog not noticing a
big horse until it moves, you know what I
mean. Well, as I look up at this man, he tells me
to look in “La casa de Tierra” and it is this
sound I am talking about. The most interesting
sound.
He basically made the earth move under my
feet, with his powerful and rolling R’s. I swear
the ground shook! Coincidentally “Tierra”
means earth. Quite stunned and surprised at the
effect, I stood there blinking for a second, then
asked him to please repeat it for me. As the
gentle giant did, I secretly squeaked inside like
a child on a rollercoaster, before I headed there
in search of illumination…
Besides this “search of the holy grail” I am
enjoying the beautiful surroundings. So far, I
have spent several hours just walking, every
day.
I walked over to the third beach from the pier
the other day, Playa de Ropa (“ropa” meaning
clothes), which got its name in the 18th century
when a ship filled with clothing and oriental
fabrics sank just offshore, and all the goods
were washed onto the beach.
This was HUGE!
The first time I had to turn back due to extreme
thirst. I didn’t know I was heading into
nowhere when I had left. I was of course armed
with sugary stuff in case of low blood-sugar,
but was very disappointed that I was just a
centimetre too short to reach those bananas
growing on the side when my levels did fall!
