TEXANS 24
Sunday, November 3, 2013
Reliant Stadium
The Colts tied their sixth largest comeback in franchise history after
overcoming an 18-point deficit in the third quarter and defeating the
Houston Texans by a 27-24 margin. The Texans took an early lead
in the first half when Houston quarterback Case Keenum found
wide receiver Andre Johnson for three touchdown receptions en
route to a 21-3 halftime lead. The Colts responded with points in
each of their first four possessions of the second half. Adam
Vinatieri notched his second field goal of the day (35 yards) prior
to quarterback Andrew Luck finding wide receiver T.Y. Hilton for
three touchdowns of his own to take a three-point lead. The Texans
had two chances to take the lead or tie the game, but the Colts defense
held Houston to a punt followed by a missed 55-yard field
goal as time ran out. Luck completed 18-of-40 passes for 271 yards
and three touchdowns has he logged his 10th career comeback in
the fourth quarter or overtime. Hilton tallied his eighth career 100-
yard performance as he led the team in receiving with seven receptions
for 121 yards and three scores. The three touchdowns
tied a franchise record for a single game, which was last recorded
by Dallas Clark in December of 2009. Defensively, Pat Angerer led
the Colts with 17 tackles while adding one pass defensed.
WEEK 9 at HOUSTON GAME NOTES
•The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Houston Texans by a 27-24 margin in
a Week 9 meeting at Reliant Stadium. With the win, the Colts improved their
record to 6-2 overall and 2-0 against the AFC South. The victory also improved
the Colts’ all-time record against Houston to 19-4 and 8-4 at Reliant
Stadium. The Colts have improved to 11-3 after the bye week dating back
to 2000 and have won eight of the last nine games following the bye week.
Indianapolis improved to 30-12 on primetime TV from 2004-2013 and improved
to 15-4 when playing on Sunday night.
•Head Coach Chuck Pagano and the Colts have played in 24 consecutive
games without back-to-back losses. Pagano passed Tony Dungy’s mark of
23-straight games from Nov. 8, 2004 – Dec. 18, 2005. The current streak
ranks seventh among head coaches in Colts history.
•With the win, the Colts are now 13-2 in games decided by one possessionor-less
under Head Coach Chuck Pagano (2012-13). This season, Indianapolis
is now 4-1 in one-possession games.
•The Colts did not commit a turnover in the victory against the Texans. Indianapolis
is now 7-0 under Head Coach Chuck Pagano (2012-13) when
completing a game without a turnover and is 42-2 dating back to 2000 when
accomplishing the feat, which ranks first in the league during that span.
•The Colts defense did not allow points in the fourth quarter for the fifth occasion
this season. Indianapolis now ranks tied for second in the NFL in
points allowed in the fourth quarter this year.
•After falling behind by 18 points (21-3) at halftime, the Colts rallied for a
27-24 victory, tying their sixth-largest comeback in franchise history (Four
wins after trailing by 21 points and one win after falling behind by 20 points).
On four other occasions, Indianapolis has recorded a victory after trailing
by 18 points. The last time came on October 7, 2012 in a 30-27 victory
against Green Bay at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts tallied points on their
first four possessions of the second half including one field goal and three
touchdowns.
•Quarterback Andrew Luck and wide receiver T.Y. Hilton connected on
three second half touchdowns en route to the victory. The first came on a
10-yard touchdown at the end of the third quarter to cut Houston’s lead to
24-12 after a missed two-point conversion. The duo connected again for a
58-yard score in the fourth quarter followed by a nine-yard touchdown with
four minutes remaining in the final stanza. The second touchdown pass
marked the fifth connection of 50-plus yards between Luck and Hilton and
the fourth touchdown connection of over 50 yards between the two. The
touchdown was Hilton’s fourth of 50 yards or more dating back to 2012.
Only A.J. Green (5) has more in that span by a wide receiver.
•Andrew Luck completed 18-of-40 passes for 271 yards, three touchdowns
and no interceptions for a 92.8 passer rating. With 40 attempts, he tied
Jack Trudeau (nine) for the second-most in Colts history. In three career
games against Houston, Luck has thrown for seven touchdowns and zero
interceptions. The contest marked Luck’s third career game with three-ormore
touchdown passes. It was the first time he reached the mark in consecutive
games (Oct. 20 vs. Denver). The victory marked Luck’s 10th career
game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime and his third this season.
It’s the most by a quarterback in their first two years in the league dating
back to the Super Bowl era.
•Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton recorded his 8th career 100-yard game after leading
the team with seven receptions for 121 yards. He also established a career-high
and tied a franchise record with three touchdowns. Hilton’s 121
receiving yards marked his third-highest total for a single game. The last
Colts receiver to finish with three touchdowns in a single game was tight
end Dallas Clark when he notched three scores against Denver on Dec. 13,
2009. With 121 yards, he tied John Mackey (8) for the eighth-most 100-yard
games in Colts history. Hilton returned a punt 34 yards in the second quarter,
which was his longest of the season.
•Tight end Coby Fleener registered a career-long reception with his 44-
yard catch in the first quarter. He finished with three catches for 64 yards
and a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.
•Outside linebacker Erik Walden recorded his first quarterback sack as a
member of the Colts when he brought down Texans quarterback Case
Keenum for a 10-yard loss in the second quarter. The sack led to a Texans
missed field goal. The sack was also the 10th of Walden’s career.
•Antoine Bethea started his 88th consecutive game, which currently ranks
first among active NFL safeties. Bethea finished with eight tackles.
•Inside linebacker Pat Angerer led the team with 12 tackles (seven solo)
while adding one pass defensed.
•Tight end Jack Doyle started his first career NFL contest. Cornerback Cassius
Vaughn started his first game of the season and the 15th of his career.
•Adam Vinatieri converted 2-of-3 field goals and one PAT for seven points
against the Texans. His 30-yard field goal in the second quarter gave the
Colts their first points of the game and cut Houston’s lead to 14-3. With the
field goal, Vinatieri improved his streak of consecutive games with at least
one point to 154. Vinatieri added his second kick from 35 yards on the
team’s first possession of the third quarter to cut the Texans lead to 21-6.
With seven points, Vinatieri passed Marvin Harrison (778) for the third-most
points in Colts history.
