COLTS NOTES
FINISHING STRONG
Through eight games, the Colts have only allowed 29 points in the
fourth quarter, which ranks tied for second in the NFL this season. It
is also tied for the seventh-least amount of fourth-quarter points allowed
through the first eight games in franchise history. The Colts did
not allow any fourth-quarter points in four straight games from Weeks
2-5, which was the longest streak for the team since at least 1999.
COMING OUT OF THE BYE WEEK
The Colts have posted a 11-3 record in games immediately following
the bye week since 2000. From 2005-2010, the Colts won the
game following the bye week six consecutive times. This year
marked the fourth time the Colts have played the Texans following
the bye week. Indianapolis has won each of the four matchups,
scoring 30 points or more in three of the games.
GOING THE DISTANCE
For the first time in his 18-year NFL career, kicker Adam Vinatieri
made two 50-plus-yard field goals in a single game at San Diego
(10/14) in Week 6, hitting from 50 and 51 yards out.
This marked the third time in Colts history that a kicker has made
two 50-yard field goals in a game. Dean Biasucci accomplished the
feat on 9/25/88 and Mike Vanderjagt did so on 11/24/02.
Vinatieri also became the second player this season to kick a pair of
50-yarders in a game, with Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey splitting
the uprights on two 50-yard field goals against Kansas City on 9/15/13.
WELCOME TO THE TEAM
The Colts acquired running back Trent Richardson in a trade with the
Cleveland Browns on Thursday, Sept. 19. In Richardson’s first rushing
attempt as a member of the Colts, he ran for a touchdown on a
one-yard run at San Francisco (9/22). With the touchdown,
Richardson became the first player to score on his first rushing
attempt in his Colts debut since Gordon Brown did so on October
4, 1987. He also scored in his second game with the Colts on a
one-yard run in the second quarter at Jacksonville (9/29).
COUNT ME IN
Safety Antoine Bethea currently ranks first among active NFL
safeties with 88 consecutive games started. Before being placed on
Injured Reserve on 10/22/13, wide receiver Reggie Wayne led all
active wide receivers and ranked second among all active players in
consecutive games played (189).
POUNDING THE ROCK
The Colts have rushed for 974 yards and seven touchdowns on 213
carries through the first eight weeks of the season. The rushing
yardage total is the most since the team ran for 1,101 yards in the
first eight games of 2007.
The Colts rushed for over 100 net yards in each of the first five games
of the season, which ties the team’s longest streak since 1988. The
Colts also ran for over 100 net yards in the first five games in 1984.
BOUNCING BACK
Under Head Coach Chuck Pagano (2012-13), the Colts have
recorded a 7-0 record in regular season games immediately following
a loss. In 2012, Indianapolis was one of only four teams (ATL,
GB, SF) to not lose consecutive games all season long.
After the victory over San Francisco (9/22/13), Pagano explained
what he attributes the team’s ability to bounce back after losses to:
“Character. Veteran leadership. This team bounces back as good
as any team I’ve ever been around. Obviously we held that streak
and kept that streak alive. Again, they just don’t fluctuate. We just
talk about consistency. I keep going back to it, sticking to the
process. They’ve bought into that since day one.”
