Hospital in Dublin, <strong>Ireland</strong>. In November 2003, he was awarded the Thomas<br />

Baldwin Research Chair in Translational Cancer Research from Dublin City<br />

<strong>University</strong> and in December 2004 was awarded the Newman Clinical<br />

Research Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship in the School <strong>of</strong> Medicine <strong>of</strong> <strong>University</strong> College<br />

Dublin. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Crown is a founding member and leader <strong>of</strong> many<br />

organizations that include the Irish Clinical Oncology Research Group, the<br />

Anglo-Celtic Oncology Group, the European Breast Cancer Dose Intensity<br />

Study, and the Irish Society <strong>of</strong> Medical Oncology. His other memberships<br />

include ASCO, AACR, and ESMO. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Crown chairs the Breast Committee<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Irish Clinical Oncology Research Group (ICORG). Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Crown<br />

received his medical training at the <strong>University</strong> College Dublin and the State<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> New York. He received his postdoctoral training on both sides <strong>of</strong><br />

the Atlantic. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Crown went on to complete his fellowship training in<br />

oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Centre and in haematology/oncology at<br />

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre. He served as assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor at<br />

Cornell <strong>University</strong> Medical College before joining St. Vincent’s <strong>University</strong><br />

Hospital in 1993.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Paul Goss was educated at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Witwatersrand in<br />

Johannesburg, South Africa before pursuing postgraduate training in<br />

oncology and a doctorate in hormonal mechanisms <strong>of</strong> breast cancer at the<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> London. He subsequently became Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Medicine at the<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Toronto and Director <strong>of</strong> the Breast Cancer Research Program at<br />

the Princess Margaret Hospital. In September 2004, Dr. Goss assumed a<br />

position as Director <strong>of</strong> Breast Cancer Research and Avon Foundation Senior<br />

Scholar at Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong><br />

Medicine, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Goss’ principal research interest has<br />

been to explore the pivotal role <strong>of</strong> estrogen in the pathogenesis <strong>of</strong> breast<br />

cancer. He chairs a multitude <strong>of</strong> international clinical trials. His recently<br />

completed MA17 study <strong>of</strong> letrozole after tamoxifen led to FDA approval and<br />

changed the practice <strong>of</strong> oncology worldwide. His translational laboratory<br />

program focuses on tumor signatures and mechanisms <strong>of</strong> endocrine<br />

resistance. Dr. Goss has published over 200 manuscripts, sits on numerous<br />

international scientific committees and serves as ad hoc reviewer for many<br />

scientific and medical journals.
