Vincents <strong>University</strong> Hospital 2008. Consultant Radiologist with a special<br />

interest in breast imaging @ Breast Check western unit and UHG 2009.<br />

Mairéad Lyons has recently joined the Irish Cancer Society from a<br />

Government advisory position as Director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>National</strong> Advisory<br />

Committee on Drugs. Mairéad has a long and varied career in healthcare in<br />

the public, voluntary and private sector for over 25years. Whilst originally<br />

training as a general nurse, Mairéad went on to train in Public Relations, in<br />

Health Promotion and in Health Service Management. Mairéad brings to this<br />

new post a range <strong>of</strong> skills and experience in collaborative working, strategic<br />

development, operations management and research. She will lead and<br />

manage the Society's programme areas, <strong>of</strong> Health Promotion, Cancer<br />

Information Services including Night Nursing, Travel Assistance and Financial<br />

Hardship Grants and Patient Support Services delivering on existing<br />

programmes around prevention, early detection and fighting cancer as well<br />

as managing strategic targets and developing innovative new services for<br />

those affected by cancer.<br />

Dr. Ann O’Doherty was appointed Clinical Director, BreastCheck Merrion unit,<br />

Consultant Radiologist St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group in 1999. Prior to this<br />

she was Clinical Director, Eastern Board Breast Screening Service from 1989 –<br />

1999 and Quality Assurance Director, Quality Assurance Radiologist Northern<br />

<strong>Ireland</strong> Breast Screening Programme. Dr. O’Doherty has a specific interest in<br />

non-operative diagnosis <strong>of</strong> breast cancer and optimal multidisciplinary<br />

management <strong>of</strong> breast cancer and has extensive experience in symptomatic<br />

and screening mammography. Dr. O’Doherty was author <strong>of</strong> the 2008 Report<br />

on a clinical review <strong>of</strong> mammography service at the Midland Regional<br />

Hospital Portlaoise for the HSE Dublin Mid-Leinster and co author <strong>of</strong> the<br />

report for Symptomatic Breast Services Commissioned by <strong>National</strong> Cancer<br />

Form 2000. Dr. O’Doherty was a member <strong>of</strong> the Quality Assurance Committee<br />

appointed by An Táiniste to produce Guidelines and Performance Indicators<br />

for Symptomatic Screening and is a Member <strong>of</strong> <strong>National</strong> Quality Assurance<br />

Committee for Breast Cancer Screening.
