Dr Robin Wilson Robin Wilson Professor Paul Redmond Paul Redmond 28 Dr Robin Wilson is Consultant Radiologist at King’s College NHS Trust, London. After 13 years as the director of the Nottingham Breast Institute he moved to work in London at King’s College, Guy’s and The Princess Grace Hospitals. He is also the Regional Director of Breast Screening Quality Assurance, Chairman of the UK National Breast Screening Radiology Coordinating Committee and visiting Professor of Radiology to the University of Derby. He is Secretary of the European Group for Breast Cancer Screening and the breast screening representative on the executive committee of the European Society of Mastology. Dr Wilson has published widely in the field of breast imaging and diagnosis and has established an international reputation as an expert in this field. He has also been involved in writing the UK national guidelines for good practice in breast diagnosis for radiologists, pathologists and surgeons and has delivered more than 150 invited lectures around the world. His particular interests are multidisciplinary team working for breast assessment, breast cancer screening, breast ultrasound and image guided breast interventional procedures. Dr Wilson has been a lecturer in the 2005-2007 editions of The Breast Course and is Director of the 2009 edition Professor Redmond is Head of the Department of Surgery, Cork University Hospital / University College Cork. Professor Redmond has served on numerous national and international bodies including acting as Director of the Scientific Committee for the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, Membership Director for the Society of Academic and Research Surgery. He is currently a Council Member and Chair of the Scientific Guidelines Committee for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Director of Cancer Services for the Health Service Executive – Southern Region. He served as Chair of the Irish National Cancer Forum from 2003 – 2006 and is currently a member of the National Cancer Control Programme Committee. Professor Redmond has authored / co-authored over 220 research publications, book chapters and books. He is an Editorial Board Member of the journal Sepsis and a journal reviewer for many international journals. Professor Redmond’s research interests include the effects of surgical injury on metastatic tumour growth and cellular re-programming in the acute septic response.
Professor Robert Mansel Robert Mansel Mr. Terence J. Boyle Terence J. Boyle Robert Mansel is Professor of Surgery at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff. He was formerly Professor of Surgery in the University of Manchester from 1989-1992. He trained in London, Swindon and Cardiff after graduating from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School. He spent one year in the University of Texas as an UICC Clinical Fellow. His major interests are in benign breast disease, new techniques in breast cancer surgery and breast reconstruction. He was the elected Chairman of the British Association of Surgical Oncology Breast Group from 1998 to 2002 and serves on many Department of Health Committees including the Cancer Subgroup of the Clinical Outcomes Group and the Primary Care Referral Group. He is a member of the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Committee and the Cancer Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He holds many research grants from major grant giving bodies such as the MRC, CRC and R&D Offices of both England and Wales. His research interests include spread of cancers, service changes in breast cancer management and sentinel node biopsy techniques in breast cancer and melanoma. He is the principal investigator of the UK trial of sentinel node biopsy (the ALMANAC trial). He has lectured widely on these topics and in recent years has given eponymous lectures in Scandinavia, France and India. He was Chairman of the Editorial Committee, which produced the first revision of the NICE breast guidelines in 2002. He is currently Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Cardiff University. He is a past President of the British Association of Surgical Oncology. He was awarded a CBE in 2006 for services to Surgery. Mr. Terence J. Boyle. Consultant General Surgeon & Lead Breast Surgeon, St. James’s Hospital. -Mr. Terry Boyle is Consultant General Surgeon and Lead Breast Surgeon at St. James’s Hospital, Dublin. Since his initial appointment to the Hospital in 1998, Mr. Boyle has been an integral member of the Multidisciplinary Breast Care Team at St. James’s. He played a key role in the processes involved in the confirmation of St. James’s Hospital as a designated Specialist Unit for the management of Symptomatic Breast Diseases. Mr. Boyle has lead a Hospital initiative to integrate Breast Care services in the Institution, with a single,‘stand alone’ facility to cater for all aspects of breast disease, from rapid access and diagnosis to therapy based on multidisciplinary planning, access for all to information and assessment regarding breast reconstruction, access to assessment, counselling and genetics clinics for those at high risk of developing breast cancer, the availability of psychological support and the ongoing availability of general support services such as prosthesis fitting, psychosexual support and social services. Mr. Boyle qualified from University College Dublin in 1985. He has maintained a keen interest in Surgical Oncology since and has worked during his training and as a Consultant in a number of Ireland’s Specialist Breast Units. Mr. Boyle completed an International Research Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Duke University, North Carolina and a Clinical Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at The Hammersmith Hospital, London prior to returning to complete his training in Ireland. 29
